These beautiful creatures absolutely stole my heart but unfortunately my beloved husband wouldn't let me swap the lawn mower for a small herd of alpacas.
I did buy a couple of skeins of chunky baby alpaca yarn, though. It is so silky. I'm not sure what it will become, yet: maybe Aibhlin from Knitty.com, an sort of cowl neck thingy.
The alpacas like a roll in the hay: apparently they do this to clean their fleece.

Sue, I can see why you have fallen in love with these lovely creatures. I want one too, but I don't think my fellow flat owners would be very happy.
My reaction, when I first met an alpaca was instant love too! They are like long-necked teddy bears, aren't they?
And alpaca yarn is the most beautiful, soft lovely stuff ever! I love to spin the fibres although it is quite slippery, the results are worth it.
